How to Pre-Bake a Pie Shell

It is important to use pie weights; otherwise, the crust won’t hold its shape.

  1. Heat oven to 400°F.
  2. Thaw one crust until it can be pricked with a fork on the bottom and around the sides. Place provided parchment paper round on pie shell and fill with 2 cups of pie weights, dried beans or dry rice.
  3. Bake for 11-14 minutes, remove from oven. Take out the parchment and weights and return shell to oven and bake an additional 3-5 minutes, or until the dough is no longer translucent.
  4. For a fully baked crust continue baking until desired golden brown.
  5. Cool on a wire rack and fill as directed in your recipe.
